Faced with a challenging decision, we’ve elected to forgo this year’s Distributed: Health and begin efforts to ensure the event can resume in 2020.
Our organization, BTC Inc, spent the last few years developing the Distributed Event Series and Bitcoin Magazine. At the beginning of 2019, we took a strategic directive to “Make Bitcoin Fun Again” which culminated in Bitcoin-focused products such as a new annual gathering for the BTC community and a commemorative 10th anniversary print edition of Bitcoin Magazine. We are encouraged by initial results, and accelerating our “bitcoin first” approach on a timeline faster than initially expected.
Our belief in a forthcoming revolution of blockchain technology is unwavering and, with that, we highly value any role or responsibility we’ve earned in driving the community toward the technology’s intersection with healthcare. The key goal now is to preserve these community-building efforts and make sure they will endure for years to come — that future iterations of this program maintain initiatives and alignment that are not disrespectful to the important work that has already taken place.
We'd like to acknowledge that, from network expansion to programmatic planning to overall representation, much of the event's foundation was built through the vision and hard work of the Hashed Health team. It knows better than anyone that the viability of any product in the blockchain space is dependent on a network of enthusiastic users who bring it to life. Perhaps no single group has been more instrumental in driving the intersection of healthcare and blockchain technology.
